SCOTTLAND floored Dynamos to register back-to-back wins for the second time in the first 10 games of their debut Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.
Taimon Machope’s solitary strike placed Scottland in second position with 19 points from 10 matches, three points behind leaders and fellow newcomers, MWOS who beat struggling Chicken Inn at Luveve yesterday.
Impressive Nigel Matinha scored a beauty from outside the box in the 37th minute to give MWOS the precious three points, ending a run of back-to-back draws for the Norton side who finished runners-up to Scottland in the 2024 Northern Region Soccer League.
At Rufaro, Scottland went into this match on the back of a 1-0 win they registered last Thursday at the cost of Herentals.
It was a game of fine margins, which saw Scottland prevail through the difference in quality of players.
The winning coach, Tonderai Ndiraya, attributed this victory to that difference.
“I’m very impressed with how Dynamos performed, they never showed any signs of fear, and they didn’t play the way we thought they would. In the end, I think what counted was the quality.
“I’ve said it before, quality is what plays football, you can’t win games without it. I think that’s what carried the day for us.
“Consistency is what we’re now looking for. We’re very excited about what we’ve achieved in the last five games,” said Ndiraya.
His counterpart, Lloyd Chigowe, also felt the same and asked for patience from the team’s fans.
This loss leaves DeMbare with eight points in 10 games.
And, they are three points away from the basement.
“Dynamos fans haven’t overreacted yet, but this hasn’t been a good show for us in terms of results. We need a bit of patience from them.
“Obviously, there will be some negative and positive reactions from fans, but we have to believe that we’ll come out of this phase together as a team.
“It’s too early to talk about relegation; we still have many games to play before we start thinking about being relegated,” said Chigowe.
Dynamos conceded just after the restart after they were punished for doing too much with the ball inside their 18 yards box by Taimon Machope.
Two minutes later, Machope nearly added his second of the day with only DeMbare goalie, Tatenda Makoni in sight, but his shot lacked precise and power.
