THE Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League title race is heating up, and if Week 15 taught us anything, it’s that there are no sacred cows in this year’s championship battle.
Norman Mapeza’s high-flying Scotland FC sent a strong warning to the rest of the league after dispatching Caps United in a massive statement victory, a result that has thrust the ambitious side firmly into the title conversation ahead of this weekend’s Week 16 fixtures.
The biggest shock of the round came at Rufaro Stadium where Dynamos ended Ngezi Platinum Stars’ 14-match unbeaten run with a dramatic 2-1 victory. The defeat was Ngezi’s first of the season and has blown the title race wide open.
DeMbare’s victory also ensured that Zimbabwe’s two biggest clubs, Dynamos and Highlanders, remain firmly in the hunt after both recorded identical 2-1 wins.

With just two points separating the giants, and both now breathing down the necks of the leaders, the championship race is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in recent years.
Herentals continue to emerge as genuine contenders after climbing into third place courtesy of a third successive victory. The Students have quietly gone about their business and are now rubbing shoulders with the league’s elite.
At the summit, the numbers tell an incredible story. Hardrock, Scotland, Herentals and Caps United are all locked on 28 points, highlighting just how fiercely contested the race has become.
While some teams are soaring, others are struggling badly.
Former champions Chicken Inn are enduring a nightmare run after suffering a third straight defeat, raising concerns over their ability to halt their slide down the table.
TelOne’s home woes also continue, with the WiFi Boys still searching for consistency after yet another frustrating result on their own turf.
Elsewhere, Manica Diamonds are proving difficult to beat and have now gone five matches unbeaten, while Agama FC continue to gather momentum after extending their unbeaten run to three games.

The goals are also flowing, with the season tally now standing at an impressive 247 goals after 13 more strikes were recorded in Week 15.
One statistic, however, remains surprisingly absent, no player has managed a hat-trick this season despite the league already producing 14 braces.
As Week 16 beckons, all eyes will be on whether Scotland FC can maintain their charge, if Ngezi can bounce back from their first setback, and whether traditional giants Dynamos and Highlanders can continue piling pressure on the frontrunners.
With four teams tied at the top, giants gathering momentum, and surprise packages refusing to fade away, Zimbabwean football fans are bracing for another explosive weekend of Castle Lager Premier Soccer League action.
The title race is no longer simmering, it is boiling over.
