SCOTTLAND ripped up the script at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane with a ruthless 5–2 win that ended FC Platinum’s 23-match unbeaten run in brutal fashion.
Even without veteran forward Knowledge Musona in the starting lineup, Scottland wasted no time taking control. Walter Musona opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 10th minute, putting the visitors ahead early.
FC Platinum hit back in the 32nd minute when Shepherd Mhlanga pounced in a crowded box after a corner to level the score.
But Scottland struck again before the break. Tymon Machope took full advantage of defensive confusion to slot home in the 42nd minute, making it 2–1.
From there, the second-half was all Scottland.
Machope bagged his second just after the restart, capitalising on a fumble by goalkeeper David Bizabani.
Then came a fourth, Moses Shidolo calmly finished a pinpoint through ball from substitute Mafious Chihweta, the recent Highlanders signing already making an impact.
Wilfred Muvirimi pulled one back for FC Platinum with a sharp finish to make it 2–4, but it was only a brief spark.
Albert Manenji hammered in the fifth, with Chihweta again delivering the assist to seal an emphatic victory.
FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza was at a loss.
“To concede five goals is my first time here. I felt we gave away all those chances.
We are all shocked. They managed to use the chances they got. But we lost to a better team on the day.”
Scottland coach Tonderayi Ndiraya credited relentless pressure for forcing errors:
“It was a good show from the boys on both ends of the pitch offensively and defensively. All our goals came from defensive mistakes caused by the pressure from our players.”
The result shakes up the title race and delivers a reality check for FC Platinum, who hadn’t tasted defeat at home in months.
Late in the match, stars Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat were brought on to loud cheers. After the final whistle, fans stormed the pitch hoping for photos with the two fan favourites.
