MANICALAND Scouts — a growing assemblage of youngsters of school going age led by a few adults passionate about scouting — will gather to appoint new leadership tomorrow (Saturday) in Mutare at the Scouts Hall.

The meeting starts at 10am.

Scouting is an age old community initiative meant for activities that instil discipline, life skills, camping, team building, discovery of new things, identity and nature skills in the young generation.

In recent years following the revival of scouting, youngsters across the province, some from districts such as Chipinge, Chimanimani and Rusape, have shown great interest in scouting by joining their peers in Mutare for periodic camps at Chinziwa Scout Park in Vumba.

In an interview, Manicaland Scouts chairman, Mr Ernest Mungwari confirmed that a meeting to appoint a new leadership structure for scouts in the province will be held in Mutare.

“Scouts plan to gather on Saturday (tomorrow) at the Scouts headquarters to craft a calendar for the Year 2023. This is an exciting development that comes after the inactivity that was caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are inviting all leaders to come in their numbers for this important event. We intend to restore our movement to the pre-Covid-19 vibrancy. It is our wish to help children grow with respect for elders and responsibly.

“We will use this meeting to appoint leadership for district and provincial structures,” said Mr Mungwari.

The prominent Mutare businessman, said scouts in the province are also engaging various schools and institutions with the aim of leasing out their Chinziwa Scouts Park in order to generate income for the scouting association programmes.

“We are looking at various ways to raise funds for the association and one of the initiatives that we think will be able to give us a bit of some revenue is engaging an institution or school that will use our Chinziwa Scout Park.

‘‘The park can be useful for institutions that want to have team building initiatives and drills among many other activities,” he said.

Chinziwa Scout Park is located about 10km out of the Mutare Central Business District in the lush green Vumba area.
