Ingredients

  • One kilogramme commercial beef;
  • Three tablespoons oil;
  • One teaspoon salt;
  • Three-quarter teaspoon ground ginger;
  • One teaspoon fresh finely grated ginger;
  • Two large tomatoes, grated;
  • Two tablespoons tomato paste;
  • 100ml tomato sauce;
  • One tablespoon flour, plus three tablespoons water to make paste;
  • Enough water to cover the meat

Directions

  1. Get your ingredients together. Cut the beef into medium-size pieces. Put it in a bowl and add salt, ginger powder and grated ginger.

Rub gently ensuring each piece is evenly seasoned.

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add the beef pieces in batches and fry until browned on all sides. When all the meat is browned, add the tomato paste and fry for a minute or two.
  2. Add the tomato sauce and grated tomatoes. Allow to cook for about five minutes.
  3. Add the water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and let the meat simmer gently until the beef is done.
  4. Mix the flour and water to make a paste.

Pour this paste into the stew whilst simultaneously stirring. Simmer for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Taste for seasoning and adjust accordingly. Enjoy! — Zimbokitchen
