Chitungwiza based-sculptor, Winston Nyekete (43) of Zengeza 4 is bitter man over time wasted while attending a fraud case, in which he was accused of duping a Korean national of US$450. Nyekete was acquitted at the close of the state case and did not have kind words for Lee Gi Hyoung of Brookelane, Borrowdale.
“I am not a happy because Mr Hyoung wasted my time when I was attending this trial. The worst part of it all is that he tarnished my image to my clients,” he fumed.
The court head that Nyekete was alleged to have received US$450 on October 5, 2012 from Hyoung meant for purchasing some art stones in Chiweshe.
The agreement between the two was that, Nyekete would be paid for labour and according to quality of pieces he produced.
Four days later, Hyoung went to Chitungwiza Art Centre, where Nyekete plies his trade and handed him US$100 to start carving the pieces.
It was the State’s case that Hyoung would pay US$220 as labour and costs per each of the art pieces.
Nyekete, after completion was said to have sold it to someone identified as Cole for US$3 000 instead of waiting for Hyoung to pay him the balance of US$780.
However, presiding magistrate, Nomsa Sabarauta acquitted Nyekete on the basis that it was a deal gone sour but no evidence linking him to the offence.
“There is no evidence linking the accused (Nyekete) to the offence, but it was a case of a deal gone sour. The complainant (Hyoung) can approach civil court to claim his money,” said Sabarauta.
Prosecutor Ntombikayise Nleya appeared for the State.
Nyekete is a creative artiste, who enjoys endearing himself to nature and specilises in wildlife.
