NOMVUYO “Sea Girl” Dube is set to release her highly anticipated new album, titled Amalangabi, which tackles themes of love, finding healing and moving on.
The 33-year-old Bulawayo-based soulful singer-songwriter has shared that the release of this album is a letter to herself from her past life experiences, from heartbreaks, finding healing and moving forward with life, facing different challenges in society related to love.
Novuyo’s rise to fame was marked by her victory at the StarBrite competition in 2015, where she was crowned the country’s best. The achievement launched her music career and cemented her position as one of the leading artistes in the music industry.
In an interview with Sunday Life, she explained that Amalangabi is a heartfelt album that explores themes of love, heartbreak and healing. She stated that through her music, she offers listeners a chance to reflect, heal and grow.

“The album delves into the complexities of love, tackling issues that women often face, such as feelings of shame, embarrassment and vulnerability. This album serves as a beacon of hope, encouraging women to embrace their emotions and seek healing and that there is always hope at the end of the tunnel.”
One of the album’s standout tracks, Madlozi Othando, is a poignant plea to her ancestors, seeking guidance and healing in the face of love’s challenges.
The song showcases her ability to craft lyrics that are both deeply personal and universally relatable.
“I poured my heart and soul into this album because I know, a lot of young women relate to it. Some even find themselves in situations where they have to make difficult choices because of love. Some are even broken from within because of what they faced in love; some have lost their self-esteem, they don’t even recognise themselves anymore and some are struggling to forgive themselves and others. This album also touches on issues that society often misunderstands when it comes to love. This album is just a reminder that love always comes at the end.”
She explained that she draws inspiration from a diverse range of artistes, including legendary musicians like Miriam Makeba and Yvonne Chaka Chaka, citing their influence as a key factor in shaping her music.
She also noted that her passion for music is the driving force behind her music.
Despite facing numerous challenges throughout her career, Novuyo remains committed to her craft. She has spoken candidly about the lack of support she has encountered, as well as other obstacles like piracy.
“Singing is not just something I started as a hobby; it’s something that is deep within me. It’s something that gives me healing. When I sing, I speak for the voiceless, and it is also my way of expressing myself,” she explains.
Despite facing numerous challenges throughout her music, like any other female artiste, Novuyo attributed her resilience to self-affirmations and her unwavering dedication to her craft, which has enabled her to navigate the ups and downs of the music industry with grace and determination.
As the young songstress looks back on her remarkable journey, she expressed her gratitude for all the opportunities she has had and the lessons she has learned along the way, saying that it has all shaped her.
“I’m proud of what I’ve achieved, and I’m excited to see what the future holds, especially with the release of my new album,” she said.
