THE Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development has launched the Second Edition of the Research and Extension Symposium, which will run until Friday this week.
This event has attracted various stakeholders who are coming together to share knowledge and collaborate on strategies to combat climate change.
Speaking during the symposium in Harare today, Permanent Secretary Professor Obert Jiri emphasised the critical role of research and innovation in the success of the Agriculture, Food Systems, and Rural Transformation Strategy (AFSRTS).
“Agricultural research is the key to unlocking solutions to these challenges. By investing in research, we can develop new technologies, practices, and policies that improve crop yields, enhance food security, and promote sustainable agriculture,” he said.
Additionally, Professor Jiri highlighted the Rural Development 8.0 initiative, which aims not only to ensure food security at the household level but also to boost income generation and create employment opportunities, ultimately leading to the industrialisation of the rural economy.
The symposium serves as a vital platform for fostering collaboration and advancing agricultural innovation in response to pressing global challenges.
