A SECOND Heart Stadium has been unveiled in the Mozambican capital, Maputo, and there are plans to have similar structures in other parts of the region.
The first Heart Stadium was commissioned at Yadah Complex in Harare by President Mnangagwa in December last year.
The compact stadium, which has modern facilities and can be developed into a major stadium capable of hosting top international matches with just an addition of the seating capacity, is the home of Premiership side Yadah FC.
It is also the home of ambitious Division One side Scottland FC.
The stadium was built by Walter Magaya, who is a football-mad prophet, who also owns Yadah FC, who are the home to the domestic league’s most valuable player – Khama Billiat.
Now, Magaya has completed a second Heart Stadium, which he unveiled in Maputo at the weekend.
“We hope we will expand this in other countries so that our children can excel in sport,” Magaya said during the unveiling ceremony.
The ceremony coincided with Magaya holding a two-day church conference in Maputo.
“Football needs investment and facilities are important in this game and we are playing our small part to try and ensure that we have got the right facilities,” said Magaya.
“You can see that we are trying a lot of things at the Heart Stadium, especially in terms of its turf and the players and coaches will probably tell you that they really enjoy themselves playing on our turf.”
In March this year, Mozambican champions Ferroviario de Beira held their pre-season camp at the Yadah Complex and trained at the Heart Stadium. The club will be featuring in the CAF Champions League this year.
