Second Musclemania Zim on cards

Last year, Victor Hungwe drove home in a Honda Fit after winning the inaugural edition and this time he is expected to once again enter the fray in defence of his title.

Musclemania Zimbabwe competition’s co-ordinator, Tofara Moyo, said pre-judging for the event will be held at Scorpion Gym in Queensdale on the morning of the show.
“Right now preparations are underway and athletes are making enquiries. Usually in body-building some of the people want to register at the last minute after sizing their rivals,” said Moyo.

Moyo is hopeful that top athletes like Hungwe, Champion Mbewe, Vincent Kandiyero, Isaac Sugar Chimuchenga and Eddie Marondera will battle for the main prize.
In 2011, Kandiyero won a Toyota Fun Cargo when he won the Mr Iron Man at Ochi City and the Pro-Fitness hulk reclaimed the title in Kadoma last month.
Moyo said they are still discussing with a leading financial institution for more prizes.

“We are talking with the institute to see if they can be able to purchase a residential stand from any town where a winner would prefer.
“There are also household goods and cash as we aim to transform the lives of the athletes through this sport,” said Moyo.

As a side show to the Musclemania show, Claude Shambare, the interim-president of the Zimbabwe National Weightlifting Federation, said they will hold their demonstration event.

Weightlifting in Zimbabwe has been living in the shadows of its sister sport, body-building.
Meanwhile, the National Federation of Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness have launched a cyber appeal to raise funds for ailing instructor Nyadzai Kays Rushika.

Rushika is at risk of a heart attack after medicals revealed that he has blocked arteries and would need a bypass surgery to rectify the condi- tion.
The former body-building boss needs to raise US$ 6 000 to travel to India possibly on July 5 for the operation.

Yesterday, ZNBBWF president, Otis Goredema, took to his appeal to Facebook asking his constituency to donate towards Rushika’s cause.
Goredema posted a passionate appeal, on their Facebook page, to athletes to donate any amount that could help Rushika foot his expenses.

“Kays Rushika, one of the giants of the body-building industry needs our help. As some of you may already know, he has been in and out of hospital since last year, suffering from a chronic heart condition.

“He is due to leave for India next week for a life-saving heart operation but is US$6 000 short. Can you help?
“Please contact me on 0772305274 as soon as possible if you are able to chip in any way, no matter how small,” wrote Goredema.
Rushika’s medical aid society has undertaken to pay for the surgery but he has to foot his travelling expenses.
