A 29-YEAR-OLD security guard has been remanded in custody on a murder charge following the fatal shooting of an assistant builder in Shawasha Hills last week.

Kapfudzarurwa, of Mudzi District, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court in connection with the death of a man who was shot on April 3, 2026, at around 6.30pm.

Prosecutors allege Kapfudzarurwa, who was on duty at a property in Shawasha Hills, confronted the victim as he walked to Food Basket Supermarket and accused him of theft.

During the confrontation, Kapfudzarurwa allegedly produced a .303 rifle and shot the victim, the court heard.

The victim’s cousin, Tinashe Jeche, later discovered the body lying in a pool of blood with no signs of life.

Police attended the scene and recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting, along with a spent cartridge. Kapfudzarurwa was arrested shortly afterwards.

The magistrate remanded Kapfudzarurwa in custody and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court, as murder is a third schedule offence.

He is expected back in court on April 20, pending his indictment.
