Seed Co donates to Mash West athletics team

42 tracksuits worth US$1 700 to the Mashonaland West athletics team which competed in the national championships held recently in Plumtree.
Seed Co donated the tracksuits to the team prior to their participation in the national championships.
“There’s a future in sport and one can never underestimate sport. Athletes can outwit anything that happens in this world because they are disciplined and focused.
“I know definitely that this team of young athletes will do well in their endeavours. In sport, there is life.
“I want to thank the teachers for motivating the athletes.
“Associating with hard-working students would give outstanding results, that is, they would be first in track and attain high numbers of medals. You have got the potential to earn a better living through sport and to develop the communities which you grew up in,” said Mutemererwa.
National Association of Secondary School Heads provincial chairman Abenol Matsiwe said sport is important in child development and creation of employment.
“On many occasions we have been reminded that sport is employment, but, sadly, much of this talk has remained mere talk. What I mean is that very little has been done to translate this into reality where all potential players are actively involved in identifying, nurturing and equipping talent for the betterment of our national human resource base.
“We are here to humbly accept a gift of sportswear from Seed Co, who have made the noble decision to partner the National Association of Secondary School Heads in promoting athletics at provincial and grassroots levels.
“To compete with energy and zeal so as to win, athletes need to be properly kitted and Seed Co saw it fit to provide tracksuits for our Mashonaland West schools athletics team which recently took part in the national championships hosted by Plumtree High School in Matabeleland South Province.
“The achievements of our athletes clearly surpassed our own expectations,” said Matsiwe.
Matsiwe said the involvement of the corporate world will create a conducive environment for selection of future ambassadors in sport.
The team amassed 33 medals — 12 gold, 12 silver and nine bronze — and they finished on third position at the national championships.
