SEIZE THE MOMENT, SAYS EX-FAM BOSS

Langton Nyakwenda

FORMER Football Association of Malawi president, Walter Nyamilandu, has urged the new ZIFA leadership to seize the moment and change the course of Zimbabwean football.

Businessman Nqobile Magwizi is the new ZIFA boss.

Nyamilandu, who is now a FIFA consultant, has been part of a task force appointed by the world governing body to supervise the transition in Zimbabwe.

“Let’s seize the moment to change history, change the course of Zimbabwean football for the future,” Nyamilandu said.

“Support this young man (Magwizi).

“This is a great moment, not only for football in Zimbabwe, but for the entire Zimbabwe people. We have been working here in Zimbabwe, the taskforce has been here for the past two years.

“It is fulfilling to arrive at such a moment, where elections have been peaceful. I want you guys to applaud yourselves. You are sending a strong message to the whole world that Zimbabwe is united, that Zimbabwe wants to forge ahead.

“We have learned a lot of lessons.”

He delivered a special message from CAF boss Patrice Motsepe.

“I have a special message from the CAF president, Dr Patrice Motsepe, that you have not let him down.

“I want you (ZIFA councilors) to take it down your hearts. You have shown that where there is despair, there is hope. Where there’s chaos there is success.

“Zimbabwe is a beacon of hope today, we can now rewrite history and forge ahead.”
