Sekuru Sugar’s ‘office’ burnt

allegedly burnt down by a rival healer following a dispute over clients.
The incident occurred on Saturday at around 11pm at his compound at Somerby Farm near Snake Park about 25km from Harare.
Police from Norton attended the scene and said they were investigating a case of arson. According to Sekuru Sugar’s wife Ambuya Siriza Seremau the fire is suspected to have been started by Sekuru Sugar’s rival a self-styled traditional healer identified as Lazaro Banda.
She said three thatched rooms – a consultation room, waiting room and another room where Sekuru Sugar kept his herbs and traditional regalia – were burnt.
“All the three rooms were destroyed . . . We suspect it’s Sekuru’s rival because he is the one who was telling people that he would burn our home after a dispute over patients,” Ambuya Seramu said.
She said the dispute was ignited some weeks ago after two women came seeking assistance from Sekuru Sugar.
However, the two women got lost and Lazaro reportedly claimed to be Sekuru Sugar and indicated that he could help the women.
“However, some women from the area informed the two women that they had been duped as he was not the real Sekuru Sugar and they left,” she said.
The Herald could not get a comment from Banda who is reported to have gone to the Nharira Hills.
“He (Banda) just left this morning saying he was going to Nharira Hills. We will inform him that you were looking for him,” a woman said.
Sekuru Sugar came to the spotlight in 2007 following a sharp demand of his love charms.
He became so popular that at one point he attended to an average of 150 clients per day, mostly women.
Some of the women were coming from as far as South Africa, Malawi and Zambia. At one point he ran out of love potions following a sharp rise in demand for his services.
Up to today, several women from all social classes flock to his compound.
