HOMEOWNERS put more effort and a lot of time into designing or decorating a living room because it is a place where most activities take place. This is where family and friends come together to relax and enjoy each other’s company.
To create a complete perfect and functional look for your living room, it is important to have a coffee table. It should be well designed to complement the look and décor of the space as well as your personal style.
The perfect style for your coffee table often starts with the type of coffee table you have. There are various sizes, shapes and types of coffee tables (Refer to last week’s article).
Your coffee table should be no more than one to two inches above or below the height of the couch, for convenience and look. When designing a coffee table there are two things to consider, that is the style and functionality or its purpose.
Some of the shapes that you can consider having include square, rectangle, oval (almost like a rectangle but has rounded edges), circle (works perfectly with multiple sitting arrangements) and abstract (this one is for huge space and it gives your living room a unique style).
The next phase is to figure out how to decorate your coffee table to complement your décor.
If you decide to accessorise your table make sure you do not over-do it because it will destroy your unique statement that you are trying to portray.
Remember you may own a beautiful coffee table, but if it’s full of clutter and other objects, it may not make a difference in your room.
Some people prefer decorating the coffee table with antiques or collectibles and there is no better way than to place it in the centre of your room where everyone can see it. If you have some collections that you want to display again, select one or two that you like most or that can work best for the size and shape of your coffee table. Mix smaller items with larger items for visual appeal but avoid over-putting items.
Trays and cloth pieces create a visual space for your items to stay contained as one unit. Depending on what you choose, it can add to the theme of the room. Find a vintage tray to enhance the look of your antiques. The colour of your table cloth gives your space a great visual and modern look. Trays work well to hide remotes and other electronic devices.
Flowers and plants bring life into your living room with flowers and plants. The refreshing smell and look of plants will make your room look elegant.
The flower or plant should match the décor of your room. Select the ones that you like and with little maintenance.
