TWO self-styled prophets have claimed that the worshipping of ancestral spirits can bring fortune.
Madzibaba Prangadhai and Madzibaba Friday told H-Metro that demonising one’s ancestors can result in a lot of misfortune.
Their claims have sparked a lot of debate among a number of residents of Good Hope where their shrine has become a centre of attraction.
“Everyone has a totem which identifies his or her background,” said Madzibaba Prangadhai.
“We have some religious extremists misleading people that their ancestors are evil spirits, and they are just there to bring misfortune.
“One’s bad character cannot be associated with ancestral spirits.
“Western culture do not forsake its ancestral spirits.
“Ruzhinji rwemunharaunda varikuuya pasowe redu kuzonzwisisa nezvemuwono uyu asi chinotifadza ndechekuti tirikudzosera vanhu mumadzinza nemitupo yavo voyambutswa.
“Honour your ancestors and it will be well with you.”
One of the residents, only identified as Christopher, told H-Metro:
“We tried in vain to close their shrine as more people are consulting them daily and we feel these prophets have become a threat to our small community.
“To us, they are more like traditional healers.
“They have become a nuisance along Old Mazowe Road daily with a number of people visiting to consult them,” said Christopher.
