Selling counterfeit products earns Bulawayo man US$200 fine

A 45-year-old Bulawayo man has been fined US$200 for selling counterfeit products, which had forged registered trademarks.

Kholwani Nyathi of Nkulumane suburb, representing Nkawu Motors in Kelvin North, was convicted of importing, selling or trading goods with forged registered trademarks by Western Commonage Magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube.

He was fined US$200, payable before June 30. In default of payment, the Clerk of Court will issue a letter of execution against property equivalent to the value of the fine.

Prosecutor, Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that the complainant is GUD Private Limited Company, represented by Samaritan Chimusewu, a product expert.

He said that on June 16, 2026, at around 12 PM, the complainant conducted an operation to check for counterfeit GUD oil filters in the company of CID detectives.

The court heard that the team arrived at the accused person’s shop, introduced themselves, and found the accused displaying 29 counterfeit GUD oil filters for sale, which had forged registered trademarks.

The total value of the recovered counterfeit GUD oil filters was US$145, said Mr Dzimbanhete.

The accused person was subsequently arrested, he added.
