Selmor comes of age . . . as she launches12-track album

Mtukudzi, missed the launch although she had invited him and his wife Daisy.
“I invited him, and I am actually surprised that he is not here. I was hoping he would come,” she said.
However, the superstar’s absence did not in any away dampen Selmor’s album launch that was attended by several people from different social spheres of influence.

The guest of honour at the event Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe applauded Selmor’s efforts, adding that cancer activists would soon engage her in the awareness campaigns to the rural community through music. “As a cancer survivor, I am concerned about the lack of education about the disease in Africa. I attended a summit where it was revealed that most cancer patients only get to know about their condition when the cancer is in the third or fourth stage, which is the critical stage.

“So we are going to engage Selmor through her music to assist us in the awareness campaigns we intend to carry out. Looking at her (Selmor) I see a determined, talented young lady, who is an inspiration to her peers and other women who are in the arts. We therefore need to promote such women in the arts,” she said.

Selmor, who was surrounded by friends, colleagues, fans and her husband, Tendai Manatsa performed two songs from her album “Expressions”, which she said was a narrative of her life. She dedicated one of the songs to her mother and her mother-in-law whom she described as pillars of strength in her life.

The 12-track album contains a number of possible hit tracks among them “Ndinochengetwa naMwari”, “Nguva Yangu” and “Ropafadzo”, a touching song about a seven-year-old girl, who was abused by her grandfather.

However, “Rudo Hwayi?” is another track that is bound to arouse interest on the social scene, considering her cool relationship with her father.
“Rudo hwayi rwepamuromo rwamusingaratidze

“Rudo hwayi rwapamuromo rwusingaoneke . . .”
She, however, was evasive on what inspired her to compose such a story, on an album she claims is a narrative of her life.
“I was merely expressing myself on certain issues, people that I didn’t understand. I will leave my fans to speculate should they wish to do so,” she said.

Harare businessman Mr Charles Nyachowe bought one of her CDs that was auctioned for US$250.
Several prominent individuals like Taka Mashonganyika, Sylvia Sanyanga, fellow artistes Edith WeUtonga, Alexio Kawara, Charles and Namatai Chipanga, Mcdee, Taz from Africa Revenge, Josh Meck and Dino Mudondo.
