Some people living with disabilities are being exposed to road traffic accidents and unhealthy living conditions by unscrupulous people who hire them to beg for money in the streets.
Member of Parliament representing people with disabilities, Senator Nasper Manyau, revealed this while addressing participants at a workshop for the Disability Network in Goromonzi on Saturday.
She expressed concern about the dangers being faced by people living with disabilities begging on street pavements and road intersections.
“This workshop is aimed at removing the begging and dependency syndrome among people living with disabilities,” she said.
“We want to create business partnerships with other businesspeople and prove your worth.

“A number of people, including businesspeople, always think that people with disabilities come to them for help. It is disheartening to see people with disabilities being used to beg. Some are being hired to beg at road intersections risking their lives.
“Let us not be abused in that way. Let us stand up and show that God can do a lot through us. Tinogona nehurema,” said Manyau.
She said Ward 16 in Goromonzi had 365 people living with disabilities and urged them to come together for empowerment purposes.
Department of Social Welfare representative, Takudzwa Mapeza, urged parents and guardians of children living with disabilities to bring them for screening so that they can access education.
“Every person with a disability qualifies to access BEAM,” said Mapeza.
“Huyai nevana vanehurema kuSocial Welfare nekuti tinoziva zvikoro zvavanofanira kuenda kwavanogamuchirwa.
“Musavharire vana venyu muchiti havakwanise kuenda kuchikoro kwete, ikodzero yemwana wese yekuti adzidze,” she said.
Among facilitators of the workshop were reigning Mr Albinism 2022 Lordwin Rimire, Brenda Mudzimu from Albinism Dare to Dream Initiative, Edwin Dana and Munyaradzi Nhambure from Spring Chemicals.
