A 60-year-old man from Bulawayo was spared jail term and ordered to pay ZiG40 268 after he was found guilty of by-passing the electricity meter at his house and going for months without paying.

Douglas Oliver Pearman was initially jailed for six months when he appeared before a Bulawayo Regional Court charged with contravening the Electricity Act.

The court wholly suspended the jail term on condition that he paid ZiG40 268.

In sentencing the senior citizen, the court considered his age and the fact that he pleaded guilty.

It also took into consideration that restitution would make good the loss suffered by ZESA.
