Senior citizen in court for rape

A 68-YEAR-OLD Chikanga man recently appeared at Mutare Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping his 28-year-old niece in 2016.
The uncle, who resides in Chikanga One, Mutare, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Mutare regional magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiwundura. The court heard that, the accused, is the
complainant’s uncle (aunt’s husband).
Mr George Nyatsuro is representing the State.
“Sometime in June 2016 on a day, not remembered by the complainant, the accused person entered the complainant’s bedroom which was not locked. The complainant was sleeping. He allegedly raped her once,” said Mr Nyatsuro.
After the act, the accused went to bath and left the house.
The case came to light last year when the complainant reported the matter to her aunt who advised her to report the matter to police.
The matter will be back in court on March 26 for trial continuation.
