adminSERENA Williams has maintained her status as the best female tennis player in the world after staying on top of the WTA world ranking for another week. But aside from her latest feat in tennis, the 18-Grand Slam champion is creating some buzz on social media as well, and last week’s exchanges of tweets with rival friend Caroline Wozniacki certainly got the rumour mill going.
Previously labelled as the feistiest competitor in the WTA tour, the 33-year-old Williams has surprisingly become more friendly with her rivals these past couple of years, as she’s often spotted hanging around with Wozniacki and recently with Victoria Azarenka.
In fact, Williams even spent quality time with Wozniacki after the Dane’s painful break-up with pro-golfer Rory McIlroy earlier this year.
The two-time US Open runner-up was supposed to tie the knot with her long-time boyfriend, before the Irishman suddenly backed off from his plan.
Now, roughly a month following their last encounter in the finals of the US Open championship in Flushing Meadow, the friendship between Williams and Wozniacki might have hit some bumpy road.
In a series of exchange on Twitter, Williams seemed to be apologetic for calling her Dane friend a liar.
Fortunately for her, Wozniacki did not have any second thought in welcoming Serena’s apology to patch things up.

Williams, who missed the China Open after suffering a knee injury in Wuhan, recently overtook Martina Hingis for the No.4 in the list of players with the longest reign on top of the WTA rankings. Williams’ 210 weeks on no.1 moved her just behind Chris Evert (260), Martina Navratilova (332) and Steffi Graff (377) in the elite rankings. — Online.
