Seven killed in separate road accidents

Seven people, including two pedestrians, were killed while 24 others were injured in separate road traffic accidents that were recorded countrywide between last Friday and Sunday.
One of the accidents occurred along the Mutare-Masvingo Road on Sunday afternoon and claimed the lives of three people,

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on July 28, 2024, at the 134-kilometre peg along the Mutare-Masvingo Road at around 1.30 pm.

“Three people were killed while nine others were injured when a Mitshubishi Colt veered off the road and overturned before landing on its wheels after the vehicle’s front right tyre burst.

“The bodies of the victims were taken to Birchenough Bridge Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the injured victims are admitted at the same hospital.”

Another person was killed while 13 others were injured when a Toyota Hiace they were traveling in was involved in a head-on collision with a Honda Fit on Sunday at around 5.45 am along the Willowvale Road opposite Old Willowvale Flats in Harare.

Police have also confirmed another fatal road traffic accident that occurred at the 164-kilometre peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road on July 26 at around 6pm.

Two pedestrians and the driver of a Nissan Sylphy were killed while two passengers were injured when the vehicle veered off the road and hit the pedestrians who were waiting for transport at Ngwena bus stop in Kwekwe.

The bodies of the victims were taken to Kwekwe General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the injured were admitted at the same hospital.
