Seven Zimbabwean students have received scholarships to study various courses in China.

Speaking during the Open House for Educators in Harare on Friday, Charge d’affaires at the Chinese embassy in Zimbabwe Mr Cheng Yan said they will continue opening opportunities for Zimbabwean students to study in their country.

“In the past three years, China has offered around 100 governmental scholarships to Zimbabwean students. This year, 11 students have got the governmental scholarships. Today we have 7 of them here who are ready to set out,” he said.

“I want to extend warm congratulations to them and hope they will serve as goodwill ambassadors, study hard in China, enjoy life in China and return home with more knowledge and skills for their motherland and people.”

One of the beneficiaries Leo Mudenda, who is a recipient of the Shandong Provincial Scholarship, expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government.

“I am so grateful for attaining the scholarship because my parents did not have the resources to further my studies. I will be studying computer science and I will return back home with knowledge that will impact my country,” he said.
