A 71-YEAR-OLD village head from Gaviro Village in Masvingo has earned himself the shock title of “beast master” after his wife caught him red-handed not once, but twice, having sex with a donkey.
The shameful scenes occurred under Chief Shumba’s area, leaving villagers stunned and the court fuming.
Martin Gaviro, the disgraced village head, appeared before Masvingo magistrate Elizabeth Hanzi last week where he pleaded guilty to bestiality. The magistrate slapped him with a 12-month jail sentence, which was wholly suspended on condition he keeps his hands AND EVERYTHING ELSE, off livestock for the next five years.
According to prosecutor Precious Takuva, the first shocking incident happened on the night of 2 May.
“His wife, Dzivaidzo Gaviro, got up during the night to use the toilet,” said Takuva. “When she came back, she noticed her husband had also gone outside but was taking suspiciously long. She decided to investigate.”
To her horror, she found her husband deep in the act l, pants down, going to town on their donkey in the kraal.
“She confronted him and they had a heated argument. Eventually, he apologised and convinced her not to report the matter. She let it go, thinking it was a moment of madness,” said Takuva.
But clearly, the donkey-loving Gaviro wasn’t done.
Just 10 days later, he struck again.
This time, his wife caught him in the act a second time. But before she could even shout, he dropped everything and bolted out of the kraal completely naked, disappearing into the darkness.
“She ran to report the matter to the village headman, who told her to go straight to the police,” the court heard.
In his defence, Gaviro told the court his wife had been denying him sex and he claimed “temptation got the better of him”.
His explanation, however, did little to sway the court.
“You are a community leader and should be leading by example, not disgracing yourself and your position,” said Magistrate Hanzi.
Villagers are now calling for Gaviro to be removed from his position as headman, saying his actions have embarrassed the entire community.
As for the donkey, it’s reportedly traumatised and villagers say it’s no longer grazing as it used to.
