Stakeholders in the facilitation of imports and exports are meeting at the 18th Shipping, Forwarding Agents’ Association of Zimbabwe (SFAAZ) conference in Kariba.
The conference is reviewing the operational framework in the shipping and forwarding sector amid plaudits for the Second Republic’s responsiveness to the needs of the private sector.
Officially opening the conference, Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo said the Government is working hard to improve infrastructure along the North-South Corridor.
“Mashonaland West Province is a vital cog in the North-South trade corridor, providing the shortest route to the port cities of Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Beira and Maputo,” she said.
“Government has embarked on the rehabilitation of the Beitbridge-Harare-Chirundu Highway along the North-South Corridor.”
SFAAZ chief executive officer, Mr Washington Dube said the conference is reflecting on the sector’s milestones.
He said Government is making positive strides in making customs handling and freight forwarding seamless.
Zambian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Derrick Livune said the two countries are working closely to improve trade.
