Shabanie Mine 1-0 Chapungu
WELLINGTON Kamudyariwa is confident that Shabanie Mine will survive relegation this season following his five-star performance which saw the miners moving to 12th position on the log with 29 points.
“We are going to survive relegation but we need to keep on fighting. We still have a lot of work. I played well through the grace of God,” said the former Chiredzi midfielder.
Kamudyariwa won the ball in his own half and raced towards the Chapungu area shrugging off a challenge from Blessed Mbavarira before releasing Xolani Ncube who tapped the ball past outdrawn Roy Mazingi.
Kamudyariwa was a menace to the airmen each time he was in possession as he tore their midfield into shreds despite losing teammate Rowan Nenzou who was crudely tackled by Mbavarira.
Shabanie could have drawn first blood in the 14th minute after he got the better of Blessing Zabula but his shot was parried for a corner by Mazingi.
Chapungu’s real chance fell in the 32nd minute when Ngoni Murisa’s shot was tipped over the bar by impressive Victor Twaliki who went airborne to deny the visitors a lead.
Talbott Mthombeni nearly increased the tally when he raced to a threaded pass from Douglas Sibanda and lobbed the ball past outdrawn Mazingi only to see his effort cleared by the alert Chapungu defence.
Zvenyika Makonese, Smart Muchabaiwa, Terrence Majo and Godknows Murwira played a game of their lives yesterday as they made sure that their team stayed in the safety zone.
There was, however, drama when Chapungu players disembarked from their bus at Maglas compound and proceeded to the stadium on foot. The Chapungu bus then was driven to the stadium to block Shabanie Mine bus from entering the stadium.
“It was a tough match but winning is marvellous. We now have confidence and our destiny is in our hands. We are not looking at any other team to do us a favour but we have to work hard for the points.
“I would like to thank the Shabanie Mine fans who are rallying behind us even at training and in the streets and it has played a big part in our success,” said Shabanie gaffer Jairos Tapera.
“It was a scrappy match to me but I am not happy that my players failed to stop Kamudyariwa. We are going back to the drawing board,” said John Nyikadzino, the Chapungu coach .
