Shabanie Mine midfielder Wellington Kamudyariwa is confident that the asbestos miners will survive relegation this season following this win over Chapungu at Maglas yesterday.
Kamudyariwa was the star of the show after the home side lost veteran midfielder Rowan Nenzou who was crudely tackled by Blessed Mbavarira. Kamudyariwa won the ball in his own half and raced towards the Chapungu area, shrugging off the challenge from Mbavarira before releasing Xolani Ncube, who tipped the ball over the outdrawn Roy Mazingi for the only goal of the match. “We are going to survive relegation but we need to keep on fighting. We still have a lot of work. I played well through the grace of God,” said Kamudyariwa, the former Chiredzi and Gunners midfielder.

Shabanie could have drawn first blood in the 14th minute after Kamudyariwa got the better of Blessing Zabula but his shot was parried for a corner by Mazingi. Chapungu’s first real chance came in the 32nd minute but Ngoni Murisa’s shot was tipped over the bar by impressive ‘keeper Victor Twaliki. Zvenyika Makonese, Smart Muchabaiwa, Terrence Majo and Godknows Murwira were impressive as the defensive shield of the hosts
