Shamu steps up anti-piracy war

anti-piracy commission were tasked with finding ways of eliminating piracy.
“We are going to appeal to the Ministry of Justice, the legislature, Parliament as well as the Government as a whole to ensure that piracy is eliminated,” he said.
Minister Shamu reiterated that those found breaching anti-piracy laws deserved stiff penalties similar to those meted out on stock thieves.
“We would like to see it as mandatory that those who practise piracy are given the same kind of penalty that stock thieves are given,” Minister Shamu said.
The minister said Zimbabwe was keeping abreast with international conventions to end piracy, despite mounting challenges in eradicating the scourge.
“The majority of Zimbabweans are law-abiding citizens who uphold the principles and guidelines of the United Nations conventions. Therefore, we would not want to be found on the wrong side of the law,” he said.
Minister Shamu also challenged the powers that be in music to provide new artistes with an enabling environment to grow.
“We are looking at ways of assisting upcoming artistes. There are a lot of talented artistes in the industry but the industry is not supporting them.
“Therefore, we are opening up a number of music outlets like Zimpost and the Zimbabwe Association of Recording Industries is spearheading that,” Minister Shamu said.
In the meeting the commission also agreed to hold fortnightly meetings in an effort to eradicate piracy.
