ELEVEN years ago, Kelvin Shangiwa made his top-flight debut with Harare City and also lifted the 2015 Chibuku Super Cup, after the Sunshine Boys edged Dynamos 2-1 in a memorable final at the National Sports Stadium.

He added another Chibuku Super Cup gold medal with Harare City in 2017 and was a finalist the following season.

Shangiwa is now a Premier Soccer League championship winner with Scottland, all this happening in a decade that also saw the Chitungwiza-bred star keeper turn out for MWOS in the Northern Region Soccer League.

He still regards MWOS as his home, just two months after helping Scottland to a historic top-flight championship.

The 28-year-old Shangiwa featured nine times for Mabviravira, thanks to a rotation system that was employed by coach Tonderai Ndiraya.

Nelson Chadya and Talbert Shumba took turns in the other 25 games.

Nonetheless, Shangiwa made a huge impact during the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, as Scottland won seven consecutive matches when he started.

That splendid run, which pushed Scottland to the top of the log’s echelons, included a 5-2 rout of FC Platinum at Mandava on August 2.

Although Shangiwa was to be dropped later on in the season, his contribution towards Scottland’s maiden championship was significant.

“I thank God that I now have a championship medal, the first one since I started my professional career back in 2015,” Shangiwa said.

“When I reflect on the 2025 season, I can see the hand of God. Remember I used to play for Harare City, where we would regularly fight against relegation, so to win a league medal is a big achievement.”

Shangiwa still has one year left on his contract with Scottland, who recently appointed Norman Mapeza as the new coach.

It is expected Mapeza will make some changes to the squad, but Shangiwa is ready to fight for his place.

Interestingly, Shangiwa has attracted interest from Harare giants Dynamos, Chicken Inn and Simba Bhora.

His former club MWOS are also reportedly interested in a reunion with the 28-year-old keeper.

“I don’t want to talk much about my future. The fact is I am still a Scottland player.

“I am ready to fight for my place and impress the new coach.”

Shangiwa joined Scottland from MWOS at the beginning of the 2025 season.

“I still consider MWOS as my home because of the way I was loved there.

“I had a fantastic season with them, almost winning the Northern Region championships, but in football sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.”

When Shangiwa joined Scottland, he became one of the three top goalies at the Mabvuku side, who also had former Goalkeeper of the Year Chadya and ex-Warriors player Shumba.

“I knew it would be difficult to seize the number one jersey because of the quality that was at the team but when God is in it, everything is possible,” said Shangiwa.

He never started until Match Day 20, when Scottland stunned Ngezi Platinum Stars 2-1 at Baobab.

Mabviravira then went on a seven-game winning streak with Shangiwa in goals.

“When I was trusted for the Ngezi game, personally I thought we would lose, but my prophet Tinashe Siwela encouraged me .

“He assured me that we would not only win that match, but I would play a pivotal role in the following games.

“But that winning streak was not an individual effort; it was teamwork.

“All in all, I am happy with the 2025 season, considering where I was coming from.

“I hope to win more titles at Scottland or anywhere I will play in the future,” said Shangiwa.

He is driven by a desire to preserve his family’s football legacy.

His uncle Wellington “Money Maker” Shangiwa is a former Premiership star who turned out for Chapungu United in the ‘90s.
