The Institute of African Knowledge has acknowledged the growing interest by tourists in the activities of the Liberation City, which is still under construction in Harare’s suburb of Warren Park.
The construction of the City began in 2020 when President Mnangagwa officiated at its ground-breaking ceremony.
In a statement yesterday, it welcomed the tourists’ interest, including heads of state.
“Following Zimbabwe’s recognition by Forbes Magazine as the world’s top tourism destination of 2025, the Institute of African Knowledge (INSTAK) extends its profound gratitude to a local media house for the acknowledgement of the role Liberation City is playing in promoting tourism,” reads a statement from INSTAK.
“The article highlights how Liberation City is Harare’s most dynamic and fastest-rising tourism destination. This momentous recognition is a welcome affirmation of the cultural, educational and economic significance of the Project.
“Incorporating the Museum of African Liberation, Heritage Village and Liberation Mall, and with amenities like an African-themed Amusement Park, an Animal Park, a five-star hotel and world-class Presidential Villas being established, Liberation City offers a unique mix of attractions and activities.
“It is significant that even as construction continues, local and international guests — ranging from children to Heads of State and Government — already flock to Liberation City.”
INSTAK added that the superstructure of the Museum is due for completion this year, well ahead of Zimbabwe’s hosting of the 2027 African Union mid-year summit.
“None of this would be possible without the visionary guidance of President Mnangagwa and the support of the Government of Zimbabwe.”
