SHEASHAM have announced their withdrawal from the Zifa Central Region Soccer League citing an uneven playing field.
The Gweru side are in a tight contest for promotion into the Premier Soccer League (PSL), which also features the affluent Hardrock from Kwekwe.
For the Gweru side, their bone of contention is that there appears to be favouratism from the league administrators, where they are pushing for certain teams to gain promotion by creating an uneven play field.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the withdrawal of both
Sheasham FC and Sheasham Gweru Queens from their respective leagues,” said the club in a statement late on Saturday night.
“This decision has been made due to the on-going issue of an uneven playing field, which compromises the integrity of the competition in the Zifa Central Region Soccer League (ZCRSL).
“Despite our repeated concerns regarding poor officiating and
other related issues, we have seen these matters ignored by the
ZCRSL.”
Hardrock are alleged to have used a fraudulently registered player in their match against ZRP Gwanda in August but the league’s leadership are yet to take action on the matter.
There are also allegations that the Kwekwe side are flexing their financial muscle through donating kits to teams in the league, thereby compromising the integrity of the competition.
On Saturday, Sheasham ceded pole position after controversially losing 3-2 away to MSU. The match was married with violent skirmishes after the referee disallowed what appeared to be a legitimate equaliser for Sheasham.
It is against this background that the club feels they cannot continue to participate in a league whose winner appears to be already pre-determined.
“Consequently, we believe there is no justification for our continued participation in a competition that appears to be pre-determined,” reads the statement.
