AS preparations for this year’s edition of the Shoko Festival gathers momentum, organisers of the fiesta have urged talented poets, singers, emcees, b-boys, deejays, film makers, producers, musicians or fashion designers willing to be part of the fiesta to come aboard and register.The event will be held from September 24 – 27.
In an interview recently, the festival media liaison officer, Tafadzwa Sharaunga, said the deadline for applications was June 1.
Among other objectives, the festival aims at creating artistic platform that contributes to the artistic development for young people in Zimbabwe.
“Deadline for applications is next week June 1 2015. Successful applicants will be contacted with the necessary details. Young dynamic, fun artists should apply now to be part of Zimbabwe’s most dynamic international urban arts festival,” said Sharaunga.
He said there were hoping to host a bigger and better event that would grant opportunities and skills training and help artistes to carve their niche in the arts industry.
“There will be a Mashoko spoken word & Hip Hop event on Saturday (tomorrow) at the Book Café in Harare, it will be the official send off show for Tehn Diamond who is set to represent the country in Senegal, at one of Africa’s biggest Hip Hop festivals Festa 2H starting on June 14.
“The Mashoko Spoken word and Hip Hop Event began in 2007 and gave rise to the inaugural Shoko Festival in 2011 which included headline acts from United Kingdom, South Africa, United States of America and Botswana.
The 2014 edition saw an expansion in participating countries to include Brazil, Netherlands, Ghana and Kenya.
