theme is “Take Over The Town” as Shoko spreads across the city into suburbs and the townships.
The comedians include the hugely popular Carl Joshua Ncube, who is certainly no ordinary comedian. Ncube is a true innovator and creative force in Zimbabwe. His jokes are reflections of everyday situations, delivered with idioms that can mirror anyone’s life.
Ncube has toured across Africa with his hilarious style of comedy and this will be one of his final shows before he leaves to pursue his career in New York.
Also on the line-up is Q the Boss, a dynamic young comedian who is relevant, dramatic and downright funny. The final act is the rising comedy star from Bulawayo, Clive Chigubu. Chigubu is no stranger to the stage. His jokes are drawn from “the township lifestyle and his upbringing”.
The comedian, who lives in Barbourfields, also explores everyday events and takes his audience through refreshing and revealing statements in performances.
Chigubu is proving to be a major hit with Harare and Bulawayo audiences with his original stand-up style.
Also featured will be the local hit comedy news show “Zambezi News”. “Zambezi News” is the breakthrough new comedy series that has had audiences in Zimbabwe and abroad in stitches since its launch last year.
Created by two of the country’s pioneering creative minds, Comrade Fatso and Outspoken, “Zambezi News” hilariously deals with everything from race to culture, politics to sport.
This show will feature highlights from the just completed first season and will be comically presented by news presenters Mandape Mandape (Outspoken), Jerome Weathers (Comrade Fatso) and Kudzaishe Mushayahembe (Michael Kudakwashe) presenting live in studio while also cutting away to ludicrous reports, spoof music videos and cheeky adverts.
Complimentary copies of Season 1 of “Zambezi News” will also be distributed to those in attendance at the Comedy Night.
The Shoko festival will also feature live concerts, DJ parties, an international poetry slam, photo exhibitions, workshops, debates and much more.
