‘Young Igwe’ descends on Glen Norah

is by public demand from multitudes of fans that want to rekindle the revelling mood the late Tongai Moyo often created whenever he visited the joint for a show.
It is the same revelling mood that is expected to engulf the place, but this time, it will be Peter, who is expected to whip people into an emotional frenzy when he gets on stage to sing some of his father’s songs.
Peter, a talented footballer, who had to hang his boots for a guitar so that he could carry his father’s legacy, continues to get better, with each gig.
He has played a pivotal role in ensuring the survival of Utakataka Band and his shows have been getting massive support from his fans.
Over the time he has managed to brand
himself well and his multitude of fans respect him for that.
In an interview from his Kwekwe base, Peter said he had a number of surprises up his sleeve.
“I am elated to perform at a place where my father used to showcase his singing and dancing prowess to his fans.
“I am also grateful for the opportunity I have been accorded and it is always nice to get this kind of support from people who were my father’s friends.
“We guarantee lots of surprises to our music fans and we promise to rise up to the occasion and provide them with top notch entertainment,” he said.
“Performing alongside the Dembo Brothers is a challenge on its own and there will be an element of brotherhood throughout the show.
“I hope to emulate one or two things and I know they will do the same,” he said.
From the time that their father died, Tendai and Morgan have shown that they have the talent and agility to maintain their late father’s brand, if given the necessary support from promoters and fans.
Although they are yet to come up with their own brand, they play Dembo’s renditions that include timeless classics, “Chitekete”, “Mazano”, “Zvaunoda Handizvigoni” and “Chengeto”.
Hwenje’s owner and manager Petros Chigodora urged his fans to support the youngsters.
“We are happy to host Peter and the Dembo duo.
“To me Peter is like a son since we were tight buddies with his father from way back, when he used to come here for shows,” he said.
