A Harare Volleyball Association (HVA) executive has implored more corporates to support tertiary institutions, as they have been the bedrock of sporting talent, with various national teams drawing their players from these institutions.

HVA Vice Chairperson in charge of marketing and competitions Vengai Nyaude said this after witnessing a kit and equipment donation to Harare Polytechnic who are preparing for the Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union (ZTISU) games to be held at Belvedere Technical Teachers College from June 11 to June 15.

Harare Polytechnic received the equipment from local sportswear company Ideal Sports in the capital on Tuesday.

“It’s good for the youngsters, and as you know colleges have talent and that’s where most of the players are identified,” said Nyaude.

“Colleges have a huge burden because they have a lot to do so it’s incumbent upon us to seek sponsorship for some of these college teams.

“These are our source of national team players so it’s important to dress them properly.

“I want to thank Ideal Sports, it’s not easy to have a sponsor these days.”

Ideal Sports managing director, Ideal Svovanapasi, said it was part of their social responsibility to support local sports teams.

His firm has in the past supplied equipment to various football clubs including Black Rhinos and Manica Diamonds.

“I was approached by the volleyball association as they were trying to source sponsorship for one of their teams Harare Polytechnic, and we were also introducing a new part of our sports section, which is sublimation on fabric print, we thought it would be the ideal platform for the people to appreciate our new brand Ideal Range,” said Svovanapasi.

“I think this is just the beginning, you will see more of these partnerships in basketball, football, handball and cricket as we are now creating apparel in those disciplines.”
