TWENTY Primary Schools in Mutasa South Constituency today received a major boost of furniture and sanitarywear which is expected to improve the learning environment and learner welfare.
The furniture which include chairs and desks as well as sanitary pads were sourced by the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, who is also the Member of Parliament for Mutasa South Constituency
Speaking at the handover ceremony this morning at Tsvingwe Primary School, Advocate Mugadza said education is at the heart of the Government, and every effort is being made to support it.
“In line with the national policy, Government is actively implementing various projects and initiatives in Manicaland to improve the education sector, particularly focusing on the provision of water, village business units, school feeding programmes and school fees support. Over the years Manicaland’s pass- rate has been improving due to the hard work, commitment and collaboration of various stakeholders.
“Education is the bedrock of our society. It is the key that unlocks potential, the light that guides our youths towards a brighter future, and the engine that drives national development. As a Government, we are fully committed to ensure that every child has access to quality education in an environment that is conducive to learning.
“The provision of desks and chairs is, not just about giving you a place to sit, it is about creating an atmosphere of dignity and order in the classroom.
“Our commitment goes beyond the classroom walls. We are actually aware of the challenges faced by our girl children , particularly those related to menstrual health. This issue of access to sanitary pads is not a small one, it is a matter of dignity, health and equality,. We have heart-wrenching stories of girls missing school for several days every month because they cannot afford sanitary products. This leads to a loss of precious learning time, a drop in confidence and a significant disadvantage in their academy journey,” said Advocate Mugadza.
Mutasa District Schools Inspector, Mrs Chipo Mlambo welcomed the donations saying it will go a long way in maintaining high pass- rates in schools.
“Schools in the district have been performing very well at Grade Seven, Ordinary and Advanced Levels and these donations by Advocate Mugadza further strengthens the good work being achieved here. We want to make sure that every learner sits comfortably in the classroom, and no learner should miss school due to lack of sanitarywear,” said Mrs Mlambo.
