Sibanda remains acting chairman, says Shamu

Committee suspended Cde Dakamela last month after passing a vote of no confidence in him.
At that time, Cde Dakamela insisted the decision to suspend him was unconstitutional.
Emerging from a seven-hour meeting at the party’s provincial headquarters, Davies Hall, Cde Shamu said the meeting was adjourned to allow him to report to the party headquarters.
“I came here to hear and listen to what the party leadership in the province is saying about the suspension of Cde Dakamela. This is because we believe that if there is a problem in the party we need to go to the ground,” said Cde Shamu.
“I have heard what they said and I have to go and report back to the party senior leadership. In the meantime the acting chairman, Cde Sibanda, will remain in charge of the province.”
Cde Shamu said he would travel to Bulawayo after Independence Day.
“The issue is that when a majority makes a decision it has to be based on the constitution and if it is not, that decision will be null and void.”
Scores of party supporters, mainly the youths, had earlier gathered at the gate and had to be turned back as they were not eligible to participate.
There was tension when the meeting started at around 11am as                  party members clashed on who was supposed to chair the meeting between Cde Dakamela and Cde Sibanda.
Cde Shamu had to agree that Cde Sibanda chairs the meeting as a majority of party members insisted that their decision to suspend Cde Dakamela should be respected.
He, however, had a closed door meeting with the leadership including senior party leaders Cdes Angeline Masuku, Joshua Malinga, Sikhanyiso Ndlovu, Eunice Sandi Moyo and Retired Tshinga Dube.
The meeting took about four hours while other members waited outside.
After the meeting, Cde Shamu said he was happy with the outcome and described the discussions as fruitful and peaceful.
Cde Sandi Moyo said the meeting was successful adding that all parties were satisfied with the outcome.
“I subscribe to what the PCC has resolved. It is normal that if there is a problem in the province the Politburo sends someone to mediate. We appreciate Cde Shamu’s guidelines,” she said.
Cde Sibanda said he was prepared to run the party in the province until a decision is made.
“I accept the results of the meeting. It was fruitful. People were frank and contributed openly. As Cde Shamu said, I will remain acting chairman until this issue is finalised.”
