THE Harare City Council says there has been significant progress in the Kunzvi Dam project.
Councillor Tafadzwa Machirori revealed this during a Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Local Government and National Housing tour of the dam construction site last week. Machirori, who is a member of the Environmental Management Committee, said that the dam will solve the capital’s water crisis.
“The dam is going to play a big role in solving the water crisis in the city of Harare.
“This source will go a long way in alleviating the Harare water supply challenge.”
ZINWA officials also said that the dam project is almost complete
“The dam is now 50 percent complete.”
Work on the construction of Kunzvi Dam is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The US$109 million Kunzvi Dam is the first Harare water supply reservoir that is on the Manyame River and is on the opposite side of the metropolitan area from Morton Jaffray Water Works and Lakes Chivero and Manyame. The dam, which is being constructed by Makomo Engineering, will be able to serve the higher altitude areas furthest from the waterworks.
Besides ensuring supplies for north-east and eastern Harare, Chitungwiza and Ruwa will benefit from Kunzvi Dam situated on the confluence of the Nora and Nyaguwe rivers in Goromonzi district.
