Sikanyika declared liberation hero

He will be buried tomorrow at his Nyarugwe Farm in Raffingora.
Mashonaland West provincial political commissar Cde Phillip Muguti said Cde Sikanyika was declared a liberation hero because of his astounding work since he joined Zanu-PF in 1984.
“Cde Sikanyika contributed enormously to the development of both the party and the province. He joined the party as a youth but managed to rise through various positions both at national and provincial level.
“He has also been declared a liberation hero since his contributions came after the country attained independence which is different from that of liberation war heroes who did their duty during and after the liberation struggle,” Cde Muguti said.
In a statement, Zanu-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo said he received the news of Cde Sikanyika’s death with shock. He described Cde Sikanyika as an industrious cadre who proved his worth over the past years.
“Cde Sikanyika was a dynamic young man full of promise and abundant leadership qualities. He always demonstrated seriousness of purpose, tailored sense of focus, energetic in pursuit of the party’s objectives.”
“Mashonaland West province has been robbed of a true son of exceptional and promising leadership qualities and the party has been robbed of an unflinching revolutionary,” Cde Moyo said.
Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial spokesperson Cde Bright Matonga said Cde Sikanyika’s body would be taken from a Chegutu funeral palour to Chinhoyi.
“The body will be taken to Chikonohono Stadium where party supporters would have an opportunity to bid farewell to the departed hero.
“It will then leave for his farm in Raffingora where the body will lie in state before his burial on Thursday morning,” he said.
Cde Sikanyika died around 11pm on Sunday when his vehicle, a white Nissan Cedric veered off the road and rammed into a tree along the Harare-Bulawayo Road.
Cde Sikanyika and a passenger Mary Saidi Sabiti died on the spot. Mourners are gathered at Cde Sikanyika’s Nyarugwe Farm.
He will be buried tomorrow at 10am.
