Beitbridge town secretary, academic and businessman Dr Sipho Singo, who died last Saturday, has been declared a liberation war hero.
He succumbed to heart failure at Polokwane General Hospital in South Africa at the age of 56.Zanu-PF Matabeleland South vice chairman Cde Rabelani Choeni said Dr Singo had been declared a liberation war hero at a memorial service held at Dulibadzimu Stadium yesterday.
Dr Singo joined the liberation struggle in the 1970s and was trained in Zambia before he was posted to Ethiopia and Russia for further training. He will be buried at his Mazunga Farm today.
Home Affairs Minister Cde Kembo Mohadi said the country had lost a great strategist.
“We have lost one of the greatest minds and implementers in the country, who had a strong passion for development and was committed to ensuring the speedy transformation of Beitbridge Town into a modern economic zone and city,” he said.
He is survived by his wife, Angela, and five children.
