SiS turns one, maintains strategic space

Momentum is still high and the forthcoming seminar is geared to live up to expectations.

“We are expecting another insight-filled, wisdom-inspired and experience and knowledge-based seminar. We offer no less. We guarantee that at our seminars each and every participant gets new leadership insights, no matter what. You walk out of there inspired, invigorated, capacitated and spurred into action to do more and be more for yourself and your company.

That is a promise, and if that isn’t growth, then I don’t know what is,” says Ms Maggie Mzumara, the founder and strategic co-ordinator for the SiS seminars.
Speakers lined up for today’s seminar include Mrs Marah Hativagone addressing how a woman can catapult herself to board level. She will focus on how a woman can prepare herself for the board and develop herself to be ‘board material’ and if she already sits on the board how she can solidify herself so she can continue to hold her own effectively.

A veteran executive, managing director of Codchem and chairperson of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, she also sits as a member of other boards, Mrs Hativagone is expected to share ‘tried and tested’ strategies, techniques and tactics.

Mrs Angeline Mundangepfupfu, a human resources executive at CABS, will administer a psychometric assessment for every seminar participant on their conflict resolution capacity as well as speak on how to develop effective conflict resolution skills.

“We are very excited about this assessment, because every participant will be able to walk out of the seminar knowing where they stand regarding how they resolve conflicts in their work environment with subordinates and peers; and even at home.

Any leader needs to be able to amicably deal with conflict,” Ms Mzumara said.
Barclays Bank of Zimbabwe managing director Mr George Guvamatanga will give insights into how the ‘lost decade’ and the shifty and sometimes shady means of survival the general populace engaged in — ‘burning’ and other practices – has impacted on the workforce and organisational culture; and what leaders need to know and do to manage in such an predicament.

The SiS seminar series has hosted four seminars since it was formed and has drawn 230 participants from 64 organisations and companies.
“We are very excited by the growth and believe our brand is here to stay. There is nowhere to go now, but up. When women’s leadership is enhanced everybody benefits. There is space and need for women’s leadership. Women leadership speaks to current times and the needs presenting in today’s world.

There is a lot to be benefited from women leadership in today’s workplace and marketplace. Skills that have come naturally for women from time immemorial are today being recognised the world over as critical in organisations corporate and otherwise. Contemporary leadership is embracing nurturing skills, interpersonal skills, team building, communication — all of which come naturally to women. As such we need to harness these skills and enhance them. And Success in Stilettos is doing its bit towards this end,” Ms Mzumara said.

SiS seminars are offered quarterly for women leaders looking to build their capacities, competencies and realise actualisation. The seminars also provide a platform for networking among women leaders; as well as opportunities to mentor and being mentored.
