SIX suspected robbers who were targeting service stations and lodges in and around Beitbridge have been arrested.
They are Clatton Dube (36), Tapiwa Trymore Moyo (38), Philimon Bernard Dambwara (34), Nyasha Muparira (45), Jameson Chikozho (25) and Stanley Shumba (22).
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspects were arrested in connection with a spate of armed robbery cases which occurred in Beitbridge where service stations and lodges were targeted between May 16 and 21, 2026.
“Detectives acted on received information that the suspects were planning to commit another robbery during the night on September 27, 2026 and were at Mfelandawonye, Beitbridge,” he said.
“They proceeded to the area, tracked the suspects and arrested one of the suspects, Clatton Dube who, upon interviewing, implicated the other suspects leading to their subsequent arrest.
“The suspects led to the recovery of two Blow P29 air pistols, each fitted with a magazine of two blank cartridges, one 9mm live round and one 9mm spent cartridge, a metal lever believed to have been used in the commission of the robbery cases and an Oppo A75 cellphone.”
So far the suspects are linked to six robbery cases, including a robbery which occurred at Redan Service Station, Beitbridge on May 16, 2026; a robbery which occurred at Cossy Lodge, Beitbridge on May 20, and another one which occurred at Mother’s Lodge, Shule Shule in Beitbridge on May 21, 2026, where property and cash amounting to ZIG969 570 were stolen, among other cases.
Meanwhile, on September 27, 2026, police in Chegutu also arrested Tawanda Venge (41) in connection with four cases of armed robbery which occurred on the same day in Chegutu.
The suspect, together with three accomplices who are still at large, robbed three complainants at Adlui Farm, Rogate Farm and a local mine while armed with machetes and a pistol.
They stole two cellphones, a power bank, cash and 200kg of gold pregnant carbon.
Comm Nyathi commended members of the public for supplying useful information which led to the arrest of the suspects.
