A PLUMBER at a farm in Nyanga has been jailed for six months after he was convicted of stealing farming equipment worth $2 500 from his employer. Provincial magistrate, Mr Ignatio Mhene, found Naison Makombe (31) guilty of stealing an assortment of equipment from Nyanga Down Farm.
It was the State’s case led by public prosecutor, Mr Zivanai Gombarume, that the crimes were committed between April and September this year.
“During that period, the accused took advantage of the poorly secured farming equipment where he worked and stole various items. The property he stole included wheelbarrows, metal ladders, hammers, pliers, PVC pipes, harrows, hosepipes, electric cables, treated gum poles, shifting spanners, doors, tanks and rolls of plain wire, among other things,” he said.
The crimes surfaced after a police constable, one Bako, received a tip-off to the effect that the accused person was in possession of the farming equipment at his house.
The police officers teamed up with other details and raided his compound, resulting in the recovery of the stolen property.
Mr Mhene slapped him with a six-month jail term; three months suspended on condition that he did not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
