Six perish in Masvingo bus crash

SIX people died on the spot while others were injured, 19 seriously, when a bus belonging to Kingswin Bus Company they were travelling in caught fire after it side-swiped with a haulage truck. The accident occurred at the 59km peg along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road yesterday morning in Sese area of Chivi district.
National police spokesperson Superintendent Andrew Phiri said the accident occurred at about 4.45 am and the bus had 56 passengers on board.
Supt Phiri said the bus was travelling from Beitbridge towards Masvingo while the cotton lint-laden truck was en-route to Johannesburg, South Africa.

“I can confirm that there is an accident that claimed the   lives    of   six passengers.   The   accident   involved a bus belonging to Kingswin Bus Company and a Bindura haulage truck in Chivi district in Masvingo. A total of 24 passengers were injured, 19 seriously while five had minor injuries and were treated and discharged. The remainder escaped unhurt,” said Supt Phiri.
