A six-year-old girl from Shurugwi died in an inferno while her two siblings cheated death by a whisker when the family bedroom hut caught fire on Tuesday evening in Dorset area.
Nyasha Masukume who was doing Grade Zero at Dorset Primary School was sleeping with her two siblings aged two and four when the house caught fire.
Narrating what happened, Nyasha’s mother Mrs Fungai Muhle said she was failing to come to terms with the tragedy that killed her daughter.
“We had just finished having our supper and my children had gone to sleep. Around 7pm. I heard the children crying out for help and that is when I discovered that our bedroom hut was on fire,” said Mrs Muhle.
“My younger brother Simbarashe got into the blazing hut and managed to rescue the two kids. Upon realising that Nyasha was trapped inside the hut, I had no option but to brave the heat. I got into the inferno but l couldn’t manage to rescue her as I could not see due to the smoke. We tried calling out her name but she never responded.”
The fire is believed to have been caused by a candle which the children forgot to put off. Nyasha’s body was burnt beyond recognition. Muhle sustained burns on her left arm and right leg while trying to rescue her daughter.
