SIXTEEN models are set to show off their ramp skills as they vie for the top spot at this year’s Miss Tourism Zimbabwe contest whose finale will be held on Saturday in Harare.

The models are Lisa Kwainona, Beautify Siziba, Vimbainashe Mutyavaviri, Zanele Moyo, Rutendo Magade, Zandile Sibanda, Ropafadzo P Manyanga, Alexis Thuthani, Ruvarashe Jane Darare, Miriraiishe Magebede, Petronella Phiri, Letween Pikire, Noxolo Dube, Kathleen Chaziya, Mavhu Alexandra Kaseke and Silence Tadzembwa. The models matron/chaperone Boitshepo Shumba said all is set for the finale with models geared up for a showdown.

“Our objective is to provide a high quality representation of Zimbabwean beauty that embodies the true colours of Zimbabwe.

“The ultimate winner will participate at the Miss Tourism World Finals in China.

“Preparations are almost done as the Bootcamp starts on Tuesday (today) with the grand finale marked for the 11th,” said Shumba.

Last year’s winner was Nomqhele Sisa Nkomo.

Tadiwa Mtetwa was voted First Princess and the second runner-up was Kudzaishe Chimedza.

Nkomo represented Zimbabwe at Miss Tourism International 2025 pageant in Malaysia.

The crown was won by Zuzanna Balonek of Poland.

Pageantry in Zimbabwe is experiencing a powerful resurgence, transforming from simple beauty contests into influential platforms for empowerment, advocacy and national branding. What was once dismissed as mere glamour is now a structured industry producing confident, articulate and socially-conscious ambassadors.

Leading this evolution is Miss Zimbabwe, a long-standing competition that has crowned some of the country’s most recognisable public figures.

Today, its renewed professionalism, corporate backing and focus on intellect and purpose reflect how seriously pageantry is now taken.

The return of Miss Universe Zimbabwe has further elevated the industry.

Contestants undergo rigorous grooming, public speaking training and brand development, with winners gaining international exposure and lucrative opportunities.

This has inspired a new generation of young women to view pageantry as a viable career pathway.

Equally significant is Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, which plays a critical role in promoting the country’s travel industry. Unlike traditional pageants, it focuses on cultural diplomacy, heritage preservation and destination marketing. Queens travel across the country showcasing Zimbabwe’s attractions, working closely with tourism stakeholders, and acting as ambassadors for both local and international audiences.

Purpose-driven pageants are also shaping the narrative.

Competitions like Miss Earth Zimbabwe emphasise environmental awareness, while other platforms focus on community service, education and social justice.

This shift highlights how pageantry is aligning with national development goals. Inclusivity is another key factor in this boom.

More niche and community-focused pageants are emerging, giving opportunities to previously underrepresented groups and expanding the definition of beauty and leadership.

In essence, pageantry in Zimbabwe is no longer just about crowns and catwalks. It is a growing, respected industry that nurtures talent, drives social change and positions Zimbabwe as a competitive force on the global stage.
