THE Minister of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion Cde Simon Khaya Moyo is leaving today for China to attend a ministerial meeting on sustainable development for developing countries.
Minister Khaya Moyo said the one-week meeting which will be held in Beijing, will be attended by a number of Ministers responsible for economic planning and investment promotion.
“There will be various meetings and lectures from experts as well as interactive sessions for everyone to share ideas. It is an important event as it speaks to social services and poverty eradication as spelt out in Zim Asset,” he said.
Minister Khaya Moyo said the low economic growth rate registered last year should not deter the hopes of the people as the Government was working towards restoring the economy on the expected trajectory.
He said attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) was imperative.
“As a Ministry we shall remain focused on FDI and indeed promote local investment as well because everyone has a part to play in the development of the country,” said Minister Khaya Moyo.
Speaking on the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals whose term comes to an end this month, the Minister said these will be replaced by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the next session of the United Nations General Assembly to be held in New York.
“As spelt out in the SDGs, economic growth should accompanied by improvements in the socio-economic indicators. We will implement these concurrently with our economic blueprint, Zim-Asset,” he said.
