Slimaz spreads wings beyond borders

FILMMAKER and videographer Willard “Slimaz” Magombedze, who is the founder of Slimaz Production, says he has spread his wings beyond borders.

Over the years, he has proved to be one of the leading film and music video producers in the country.

He has worked with high-profile artistes such as Jah Prayzah, Killer T and Andy Muridzo, while beyond borders, he has had the privilege to work with the likes of Diamond Platinumz (Tanzania), DJ Maphorisa (South Africa) and Aliona Banda (Malawi).

“Right now, Thoko Suya, Aliona Banda and Stella Kantolo, all from Malawi, are here. In fact, it is now three weeks since they came. We are working on their new videos,” said Slimaz.

“It is encouraging to note that several foreign artistes are now interested in my services.”

He plans to expand his brand to the global stage.

“I have the capacity to compete with my colleagues from beyond our borders. Our standards are good and very competitive. They match international requirements as we have state-of-the-art equipment. I have invested a lot to be where I am today.”

He, however, believes more still needs to be done to invest in the industry and bring unity among stakeholders.

“I am dreaming big. It is my wish that one day we grow our video and film industry just like Nigeria has done with Nollywood. It is possible! We have the talent. What we just need is proper investment and cooperation among us.

“I am currently working with many local filmmakers among the NAXO films and we have also partnered with several investors so that our vision can be achieved,” he said.

Slimaz reckons the strides being made by comedienne and socialite Tyra “Madam Boss” Chikocho-Munetsiwa in Hollywood shows that Zimbabwe has talent.

Madam Boss has also been assured roles in Nigerian and South African films.

Big names like Arnold Chirisa and Danai Gurira have made it big in Hollywood.

“We just need to believe in ourselves. Zimbabwe is full of talent. Madam Boss is on the verge of a big breakthrough and this is because she is working hard and believes in whatever she is doing. If you work hard, the sky will be your limit.”
