Small teams rule the roost

THE so-called small teams are ruling the roost in the Zifa Southern Region with a third consecutive top goal scorer award set to be awarded to a non-title contender team this weekend.

The league is going into Week 16 round of matches.
Since the league started in April players from title favourites Bulawayo Chiefs, ZRP Bulawayo Province and ZPC Hwange have failed to grab the $200 monthly award.

Instead Morgan Mungombe walked away with the April award with six goals while May winner Marvin of Zim Leopards cashed in the cheque with five goals.

This weekend at Fairbridge Ground in Bulawayo, Tendai Zuza of Black Boots will walk away with the monthly top goal scorer award having netted five goals.

Nokel Security director Kenneth Mhlophe said he was happy players from newly promoted sides were leading the scorersa charts.

a?This is good for the game because in the past, weave seen the award going to players from teams chasing the championship, but this time around it seems new teams want to own the award. We also want to see players from out of Bulawayo teams winning the award because the essence of this accolade is to encourage players to be clinical in front of goal,a? said Mhlophe.
